The Stockholm Bypass Project
The groundbreaking for the “Förbifart Stockholm” (Stockholm Bypass) infrastructure project took place in 2014 and is expected to be completed by 2030. Svero has supplied several suspension solutions for district heating pipes in this extensive infrastructure project, and here we present one of them.
In the 8-meter-wide and 185-meter-long pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the E4 motorway, between Kungens Kurva and Skärholmen, the district heating and district cooling pipes have been installed within the steel box section underneath the bridge. Svero supplied the trolleys, including the couplings, that suspend the district heating pipes.
The district heating pipes are 12 meters long and have a diameter of 710 mm. They were lifted into the bridge using a specially excavated work platform, welded in place inside the bridge structure, and then manually pushed into position with the help of the Svero-trolleys from which they now hang. This solution eliminated the need for scaffolding and avoided work involving suspended loads.
“The pipe suspension system supplied by Svero consisted of 60 pre-assembled 3-ton trolleys, including the couplings between the trolleys and the pipes,” says Nicklas Almlöw, Technical Sales Representative at Svero. “The trolleys were held in stock by Svero and delivered upon request by the site manager. Eight units were loaded per pallet and delivered just-in-time to facilitate logistics at the tight construction site.”
